My heart decided, that it’s Hong Kong where I want to graduate from. For months, I’ve been preparing, packing and saying farewell to all my friends, while being excited for what’s to come.
On 26th August, around 5 AM, I opened my eyes after a short nap on an overnight flight. Before falling asleep, I knew that when I’ll open my eyes next, I’ll be waking up in a new land, for a journey I’ve never had before. Slowly, I opened my eyes, looking out of the window. I could see large clouds, and a beautiful sunrise, welcoming me into the new country for a beautiful journey!
A Whole New World..
There was an hour before the plane landed, but that time flew away in some moments as I was lost in looking at this beautiful view and thinking about everything that I was going to experience soon enough. To see everything that I saw on Google Earth live from my eyes. To enter a whole new world!
A New Fantastic Point of View!
Soon we were in the bus, and I grabbed the front seat on the top. Next 50 minutes, I forgot about what all responsibilities I’ll still have, and got lost in the shining, shimmering, splendid view of the city! It was raining a little, making it all even more exciting!
And.. we were there, to my new home, my new university, City University of Hong Kong.
No One to Tell us No..
I soon got checked into these tall buildings, which are the Student Residence of my university. Which, I think, officially marked the beginning of an independent life! 3 days later, I had to tell my parents good-bye, which was harder than I expected, an indescribable feeling, because the heart was both sad to stay away from them, but also excited since the journey had only began.
Or Where to Go…
I love to walk late night, and in a residence campus as beautiful as this, on a hilly area, with no time restrictions, it’s a thrilling chase in a wondrous place! This city even reminds me of Singapore, with similar cars, equally clean roads, and traffic lights to cross the roads!
Something I noticed here is how the whole city is designed to make it easier for blind people to navigate. There’s braille language on almost all sign boards, the traffic lights beep continuously, changing their frequency for when it’s red, green, or about to go back to red. There are special blocks on footpaths for guiding the way, and telling when the road starts to the blind.
Or Say We’re Only Dreaming.!
But, isn’t this really a dream? To live in this neighbourhood? To see these views everyday? To see this skyline everytime I walk to the class?
A Whole New World…
Can I talk about the skyline? Omg, WOW! Be it day or night, dusk or dawn, the skyline of Hong Kong doesn’t fail to be awe-inspiring.
A Dazzling Place I Never Knew!
Not only the air here is a hundred times more fresh, the weather here is incomparable to anything I’ve ever seen. It might be a bright sun, but it’s totally possible that it starts raining within 2 minutes!
But Now from Way up Here…
It’s a hilly area, and to reach my room, I’ve to climb enough. But, even though Google Fit says that I’m waking an average of 10 thousand steps a day, none of it feels tiring. If anything, it makes my lungs breathe better air, and heart more healthier.
It’s Crystal Clear..!
The night sky is possibly the most beautiful thing here! The stars though are covered by the clouds, yet the sky doesn’t fail to impress me with its stunningness.
That Now I’m in a Whole New World with You!
And, ofcourse, I made friends. We sit together everyday till late night, chatting or just playing cards. Though most of them are Indian, but belonging to a community where you’re studying in the same classroom with students from all over Asia, it feels like something you wouldn’t get to feel in the Indian classrooms, be it any college in the country.
We had a camp organised by the International Society of City University of Hong Kong where we got to know each other & seniors better, interacted with them and played a lot of fun games, while also getting familiar to the huge campus and a new city!
Every time I walk to the campus, I want to keep gazing the skyline. And, when I’m at a higher level, the view is incomparable. The sky, the clouds, the weather, I can talk about those repeatedly and not get bored of seeing them everyday.
Sure, I miss Delhi. Infact, I would say, there’s no city like Delhi. It’s my home after all. It’s where I was born, where I went to school, where I matured. And, ofcourse, my family and friends are also in Delhi, and I miss them too. When I open SnapMap on Snapchat, and look at how far I am from everyone, it feels adventurous. It feels like I’m standing out, and I tell myself that I’m just moving on to someplace better.
Well, that’s last stanza of the song, the song which I couldn’t stop humming for the entire first week in HK. Every sentence of the lyrics has been what I’ve felt, and thus, I decided to do a themed post.
Well, here at City University of Hong Kong, I’m sure going to get opportunities to work with the best companies, intern with them, and learn a lot more on a global level. The large campus, the new food, different people, and an independent life where I’ve to take care of myself, having to one to cook me food, or wake me up on time, it’s all indeed a part of A Whole New World!
